What I have learned through my masters project is only an introduction into instructional design and pedagogy practices. Designing an online course provided me with an opportunity to work with online course development stakeholders and a chance to experience the best practices of instructional design. I came into my masters project understanding the basics of instructional design, but without any experience of how the entire process works. I now have the tools, experience, and the beginning of a social network of educators and designers to start my career and evolve my personal pedagogy, and to adapt to the changing landscape of education.
Year 1 Goal
Upon M.Ed. graduation I hope to apply to a job position at my current institution for an Instructional Designer position. In the meantime, I will continue to grow my knowledge of instructional design best methods and technology by researching and staying up to date with ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) standards.
Year 2 Goal
By this time my goal is to actually be coaching and developing online, hybrid, or face-2-face courses with educators. I would love to apply my knowledge of Universal Design for Learning to create engaging and accessible courses for a wide range of students with the hope of increasing student retention for high dropout courses.
Year 3 Goal
Hopefully by this point I will be seeing the results of my coaching and course development with educator and student feedback to conduct a self review of my personal course development standards. If I feel that my emphasis of increasing student engagement and satisfaction through course design isn’t seeing the results that I would like, I will conduct a personal review to find alternative best practices that I may be missing and improve the courses with any new best practices that I find.
